Due to a maintenance issue with the boilers, the engines are unable to run.
The issue, a damaged water tube, was repaired by a ‘blind flange’. This can be seen by inspecting the boiler on the southern side of this building.
The blind flange is a flange without a bore. It is used to close off the ends of a piping system and/or pressure vessel opening (in this case the water tube). It also permits easy access to the interior of a line or vessel once it has been sealed and must be reopened.
The staff and volunteers at the Waterworks sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused through these repairs.
